Playground Handbook

This handbook for the Eastern State Penitentiary Park Playground was used as a guideline and fundraising device for the neighborhood park. The design of the park itself was based on a field with different 'dots' for different activities. We decided to carry that over into the graphics of the handbook - the dots becoming tabs for different sections.

I am obsessed with wallpaper and all its weird possibilities. These are cards that I have made by collageing wallpapers (and adding glitter, of course).

"Between Form and Circumstance" Exhibition and Materials

Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates retrospective exhibition at Harvard's Graduate School of Design, 2006. I coordinated and designed the exhibition and supporting materials. The greatest challenge of this project was cohesively presenting the huge amount of material, spanning many decades and media, which was stored between two offices and many storage spaces in several cities, as well as leading a group of graduate students and staff who were creating support diagrams and materials for the show.

Trapeze Flyers

Flyers for shows put on by the Trapeze Loft (yes, I am also a trapeze artist). The first two are collages of wallpaper, and public domain trapeze ladies - the one above was then finished with Adobe Illustrator text and graphics - the one below is a little rougher - which is kind of Trapeze Loft style.

Some examples of Landscape Architecture projects - for any project, one of the most important elements of a project is communication - getting people to understand the elements of the proposal, how it works, why they benefit from it, and to become invested in its successful outcome. The presentation of the design is often part of the design itself.

When Field Operations first set up shop in NYC, we had to tell people we'd moved. We also wanted to make a statement - what the firm was all about. I designed a series of postcards and finally a fold-out card that we mailed in transparent envelopes.

Business Cards

A few examples of Business Cards I have designed.

With the first three, my client needed something quick, that conveyed the range of skills she can provide, and had some catchy graphic quality. She ended up choosing the yellow/gray option.

For this card I wanted to make something that showed my sense of humor, and that landscape is a complicated, weird, pleasurable, sometimes unsettling experience. And I also wanted to make something that people might look at again and again.
